Public Safety and Crime Prevention

Public safety departments in a community or on a university campus require up-to-date information on activities, resources and facilities to assist in preventing, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergency situations. Tango enables people and computers to collaborate in linking and organizing information by producing connected intelligence, turning your information into a force multiplier for your safety and security efforts.

The public safety challenge: Accessing critical information when it is needed is currently a time-consuming and difficult process that can slow the response time with respect to routine or emergency events.

The solution: Tango helps security personnel collect, organize and keep up to date critical data regarding people, places, events and other types of entities, such as:

  • Facility information such as hours of operation, cameras, access doors, location of fire alarms, equipment and supplies, hazardous materials stored in the building, keys, etc.
  • Personnel/faculty information such as department managers, special facilities people, occupants, nurses on call, EMS personnel, etc.
  • Event information as to where an event is taking place, what section of the building will be occupied, who is allowed to enter the other sections of the building during the event, etc.

A gang-related law enforcement challenge: Hundreds of man hours are expended by investigators and analysts in seeking accurate and timely intelligence  regarding the criminal activities of specific gangs and/or gang members, including their hierarchy, modes of operation (recruiting, financing,  migration patterns, command and control elements and modes of  communication.

The solution: Using the Tango semantic wiki to turn gang data into connected gang intelligence supporting the NGCP (National Gang Collection  Priorities): i) Track the interrelationship of philosophies, creeds,  organizational structure, direction, nature of criminal activities, nature of  origin, location of historical bases, common alliances, allegiances,  affiliations and associations of gang sets, cliques, chapters or cells. ii) Let NGIC Analysts, LEO Special Interest Group (SIG) and RISSNet users collaborate in analysis and investigations.

With Tango, public safety departments or universities can have a proactive approach to planning for emergencies.
